So, I've been in my house about 3.5 months now. Still not organized, still have lists of little projects I want to do (stain the deck, take out the glass shower doors in the second bathroom, buy decent drapes for my big front windows, etc.) I work six days a week, so I have very limited time for house stuff. But things are good. I don't mind the drive to work, although the deer are starting to make more regular appearances. I had to dodge four today.
The record setting heat and humidity this summer was a good shake out for me and the house. I kept my electric bill at tolerable levels and even managed to lower my water bill. We'll see what the winter brings. I have hardwood and tile floors, so it's going to feel pretty cold in the house. Fortunately, I like it that way, and I have flannel lined slippers!
I have great neighbors, which is such a novelty to me. The elderly couple next door-- he does my yard work for a very reasonable fee, and he does a great job. He even drags my garbage can in for me on garbage day. His wife is always trying to feed me. They adore my dogs, and my dogs love them back.
The retired lady on the other side had an above ground pool put in and has a huge pile of gravel left over. She said I could use it to spread on some low spots in my driveway. Another neighbor was also using some, so he just spread the gravel for me too while he was at it.
Now that it's finally cooled off at night, I've been shutting off the a/c and leaving the windows open. I haven't been able to do that for five years--it wasn't safe at the apartment. It's just....nice.
