On to the Surgery
Aug. 5th, 2010 07:01 pmThe French Bulldog I fostered for animal control was awarded to me after the police won their court case against her abusive/neglectful owners. We started her heartworm treatment two weeks ago, and she did very well. However, she has a pyometra (infection of the uterus), so we have had to abandon our original plan to evaluate her for spaying after her heartworm treatment is completed and we could assess her heart damage. We've kept the pyometra in check with the use of three antibiotics long enough for her to at least get her first immiticide injection (heartworm drug) but we can't wait any longer. That pus filled uterus has to come out. She's going in tomorrow to be spayed. She's a high risk surgery because of the pyometra and the probable heart damage from the heartworms, but the pyo will end up killing her if we don't get the uterus out. She's a tough old dog, I havae high hopes that she'll do okay. I have taken the weekend off from the bookstore to keep an eye on her. Going to be a long day tomorrow...
